Ingredients:

For Vanila Cake Batter

  • All-purpose flour - 1 ½ cup
  • Unsalted butter - ½ cup / 1 stick, at room temperature
  • Granulated sugar - 1 cup
  • Baking powder - 2 ¼ Teaspoon
  • Buttermilk - ½ cup
  • Eggs - 2 Nos
  • Egg yolk - 2 Nos
  • Vanilla extract - 1 Teaspoon
  • Salt - ¼ Teaspoon

For Chocolate Cake Batter

  • All-purpose flour - 1 cup
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder - ½ cup
  • Unsalted butter - ¾ cup / 1 ½ stick, at room temperature
  • Granulated sugar - 1 cup
  • Baking soda - 1 Teaspoon
  • Buttermilk - ½ cup
  • Eggs - 1 Nos
  • Vanilla extract - ½ Teaspoon
  • Hot water - 2 Tablespoon
  • Salt - ¼ Teaspoon
Instructions:
  1. Preheat the oven to 325° F.
  2. Arrange parchment paper in a 9x13 inch baking pan and keep aside.
  3. Get ready with two large mixing bowls.

Vanilla cake batter Preparation:

  1. Mix together all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a small bowl. Add butter into this and mash it around.
  2. Add eggs, egg yolks, vanilla extract and buttermilk in the first large mixing bowl; Whisk until nicely blended.
  3. Now add the dry ingredients-butter mixture into the mixing bowl and beat until smooth; Set aside.

Chocolate cake batter Preparation:

  1. Mix together all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda and salt in a small bowl. Add butter into this and mash it around.
  2. Add eggs, vanilla extract and buttermilk in the second large mixing bowl; Whisk until nicely blended.
  3. Now add the dry ingredients-butter mixture into the mixing bowl and beat for 2 minutes.
  4. Then add the hot water and beat until smooth; Set aside.

Mixing Procedure:

  1. Now you have a bowl of vanilla batter and a bowl of chocolate batter. The chocolate batter will be very thin.
  2. Drop spoonful of vanilla and chocolate batter alternatively into the pan. (refer pictures)
  3. Cut through the batter using a knife or skewer until it forms a marble layered design.(refer pictures)
  4. Bake the cake for about 30-45 minutes or until a wooden skewer inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Cool completely on a wire rack.

Chocolate Frosting: (optional)

  1. Continue with the recipe of Chocolate Frosting and get the frosting.
  2. Spread over the cake and make a generous layer of chocolate frosting.
  3. I prefer to store it in the refrigerator and bring it to room temperature before serving.
