Ingredients:
For Custard Sauce:
- Milk - 1 cup
- Egg white- 1 Nos, beaten
- Sugar - 1 ½ Tablespoon
- Cornflour - 1 Teaspoon
- Salt - 1 pinch
- Vanilla essence - ¼ Teaspoon
For Cake:
- All-purpose flour - 1 cup
- Baking powder - 1 Teaspoon
- Baking soda - 1 Teaspoon
- Dates, deseeded - ½ cup, chopped
- Seedless Raisins - ½ cup, chopped
- Sugar - 1 Tablespoon
- Butter - 1 Tablespoon
- Boiling water - ½ cup
Instructions:
For Custard Sauce:
- Boil the milk in a sauce pan. Once boiled, add in the beaten egg white, sugar, cornflour and mix well on medium heat.
- Cook until the sauce becomes slightly thick on medium heat. Stir continuously. Remove from heat and let it cool.
- Once cooled, add in the vanilla essence, salt and mix well. Set aside.
For Cake:
- Mix together the all-purpose flour, baking powder and baking soda in a bowl.
- Take the chopped dates, chopped raisins, sugar, butter, boiling water in a big bowl and mix well.
- Add in the dry mixture and combine well. Place this into a medium bowl, in which you could steam the cake and level the top.
- Place the bowl in the steamer and steam cook on high heat for 50-60 minutes or until a wooden skewer inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Remove from heat and let it cool. Then invert and tap the bowl sharply on the plate and serve with custard sauce.
