Ingredients:
- Chicken - 1 Kg, cut into medium pieces
- Onion, medium sized - 4 Nos, thinly sliced
- Tomato, medium sized - 2 Nos, sliced
- Green chillies - 2 Nos, sliced
- Chopped Ginger - 3 Tablespoon
- Chopped Garlic - 3 Tablespoon
- Mustard seeds - ½ Tablespoon
- Kashmiri chili powder - 1 ½ Tablespoon
- Coriander Powder - 3 ½ Tablespoon
- Turmeric Powder - ½ Tablespoon
- Garam masala - ¾ Tablespoon
- Curry leaves - 2 sprig
- Chopped coriander leaves - 3 Tablespoon
- Coconut oil to shallow fry the chicken
- Water as required
- Salt to taste
For Marination:
- Turmeric Powder - ½ Teaspoon
- Kashmiri chilli powder - ½ Tablespoon
- Yogurt or curd - 2-3 Tablespoon
- Lemon juice - 1 Tablespoon
- Salt - ½ Tablespoon
Instructions:
- Clean and wash the chicken pieces. Drain the water completely.
- Marinate the chicken pieces with the items listed in "For Marination" and keep it for about 15 minutes.
- Heat coconut oil in a pan, and shallow fry the marinated chicken pieces. Transfer to kitchen tissue paper and set aside.
- Splutter mustard seeds in the same pan, then add the sliced onion and saute until translucent.
- Add in the chopped ginger, garlic, green chilies, curry leaves and saute till the raw smell disappears.
- Add in the chopped tomato and saute until the tomato is mashed well.
- Then add in the turmeric powder, coriander powder, chilly powder, garam masala and saute for for 2-3 minutes or until the raw smell disappears on low heat.
- Now add in the shallow fried chicken pieces and mix well.
- Add in the required amount of water and salt. Mix well and cook for about 5 minutes on high heat.
- Then lower the heat, cover and cook until the gravy is thick on low heat.
- Add in the chopped coriander leaves and mix well. Cover and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
- Remove from heat and serve warm.
