Ingredients:
- Chana Dal - ½ cup
- Powdered Jaggery - ½ to ¾ cup, adjust according to your taste
- Thick Coconut milk - ¾ cup
- Dried Ginger powder - 1 pinch
- Cardamom powder - 1 pinch
- Coconut slices(very thin slices) - 1 Tablespoon
- Crushed cashew nuts - 1 ½ Tablespoon
- Ghee - 2 Tablespoon
Instructions:
Initial Preparation:
- Heat ghee in a pan, fry coconut slices till it turns light golden color and remove from ghee ,set aside.
- Now add crushed cashew nuts in the same pan and fry until light brown in color, remove from ghee and keep aside.
- Then add the channa dal in the same pan, and roast for few minutes.
- Boil jaggery along with ¼ cup of water till the jaggery dissolves completely. Then filter it to remove the impurities and set aside.
Kadala Payasam Preparation:
- In a pressure cooker add roasted channa dal with water till immersing level; Cook for 3-4 whistles.
- When it is done, reserve ½ cup cooked dal and mash well the remaining dal.
- In a heavy bottomed pan, heat the prepared jaggery syrup until it starts thickening, then add the reserved dal and the mashed dal, combine well.
- Then add the thick coconut milk and boil. When it starts to boil, add the dried ginger powder, cardamom powder and mix well.
- Cook for another 2-3 minutes on low heat and stir continuously.
- Remove from fire, garnish with fried cashews and coconut slices, serve hot/warm/cold as per your preference.
