Kerala Nadan Beef Fry

   Happy Diwali   

Ingredients:
  • Beef - 1 Kg, cut into small pieces
  • Onion - 500 Gms (4 large), sliced
  • Ginger - 2 large pieces, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 10-15 cloves, finely chopped
  • Green chilli - 4 Nos, sliced
  • Coconut slices - 50 Gms
  • Chilli powder - 1 ½ Table spoon
  • Pepper powder - ½ Table spoon
  • Turmeric powder - ¾ Teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1 Table spoon
  • Mustard seeds - 1 Teaspoon
  • Curry leaves - 3 sprig
  • Water - ¼ cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Coconut Oil to fry
Instructions:
  1. Clean and wash the beef pieces and drain completely.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the beef pieces, ½ teaspoon turmeric powder, 1 tablespoon chilli powder and salt.
  3. Cook the marinated beef along with ¼ cup of water in a pressure cooker, for 4-6 whistles or until the beef is cooked well.
  4. Heat coconut oil in a pan, splutter mustard seeds. Then add coconut slices and fry till coconut slices are light brown.
  5. Add chopped ginger, green chilli, garlic and 1 sprig curry leaves along with the chopped onions and saute till the onions are light brown in color.
  6. Then add the cooked beef, garam masala, pepper powder, ½ tablespoon chilli powder, ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder and mix well. Check for salt at this stage.
  7. Cook on low heat for about 10 minutes or till the water content evaporates completely.
  8. Now add remaining curry leaves and 1 tablespoon of coconut oil; Mix well and fry on low flame, till the beef turns brown in color.
  9. Serve hot.
