Ingredients:
For Dough:
- All-purpose flour - 2 cup
- Active Dry Yeast - 2 Teaspoon
- Lukewarm Milk - ½ cup
- Sugar - 2 Tablespoon
- Melted Butter or Clarified butter(ghee) or Vegetable Oil- 2 Tablespoon
- Salt - ¼ Teaspoon
- Lukewarm water to knead, as required ( 2-3 tablespoons approx: )
For Filling:
- Grated Coconut - 1 cup
- Tutti Frutti - ¼ cup
- Glazed cherries, chopped - 2 Tablespoon
- Raisins - 15-20 Nos
- Broken Cashew nuts - ¼ cup
- Sugar - ¼ cup
- Brown Sugar - 2 Tablespoon
- Butter or Ghee - 1 Tablespoon, optional
Other Ingredients:
- All-purpose flour, for dusting
- Egg white or milk, for brushing before baking
- Butter, for brushing after baking
Instructions:
Initial Preparation & Dough Making:
- Take the lukewarm milk in a bowl, add in the yeast and sugar. Mix well.
- Keep aside until frothy for about 10-15 minutes.
- In a large mixing bowl, add in the flour, salt and mix well.
- Then add in 2 tablespoon of butter or ghee, yeast mixture and mix well.
- Knead until the dough is smooth and elastic, about 6-10 minutes. Add lukewarm water little by little, if required. Shape dough into a ball shape.
- Cover the bowl with a plastic wrap or a towel and let the dough rise at room temperature until doubled, about 1-2 hours.
Filling Preparation:
- In a bowl, add the ingredients mentioned in 'For Filling', mix well and set aside.
Arrangement & Baking:
- Knead the dough for a minute.
- Divide the dough into two equal portions, and shape them into balls.
- Lightly dust the work surface with flour, roll each dough ball into slightly thick rounds.
- Place one rolled dough into a baking sheet.
- Spread the prepared filling onto the rolled dough uniformly by leaving the sides.
- Brush the sides with water, place the second rolled dough on top.
- Gently press the sides to seal the edges properly.
- Keep it aside in warm place for 30 minutes.
- Then brush the top with egg white or milk.
- Place the pan in a 350°F preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes.
- Remove immediately from pan and let it cool for at least 10 minutes.
- Then slice, serve and enjoy :)
Tips:
- Once the dilkush is ready, remove it from oven, immediately brush some butter on top of the bread, to get a soft and shiny crust.
